Something new

I’ve been chipping away at a new theme that attempts to solve some of the shortcomings of my first theme, Silo. Primarily, the ability to write a lengthy text post and not bork the layout. Personally I don’t write a lot, but designing-out the ability to include a longer post from time to time seems dumb in hindsight.

I’m still working out the kinks, but you can get the general idea from my current theme. Visually it’s not worlds different, but it’s a lot more functional in my mind. The main difference is in text posts. I’m doing a little png trickeration to accommodate long posts on the front door, yet preserve the boxy layout. I’ve also dropped in Disqus comments which, along with plastics, are the future.

There are still some loose wires to connect before I’ll feel comfy releasing this, including:

  1. setting all the colors with the theme color thingy
  2. properly commenting the theme for things like Disqus integration
  3. wire up custom css tag for overrides.
  4. experiment using 500px photos and subsequent css nausea
  5. hooking up the photo link code
  6. try body at a fluid width
  7. consider putting a permanent ad in the theme at post 3 (haha)
  8. consider how a ‘following’ list could be worked in
  9. reblog flag? (like the date on photos?)
  10. properly style all the default html (ala formatting toolbar)

That list is mostly for my benefit, but if anyone has any input, don’t be a stranger- leave a comment.
